In 2015, Romania took steps to regulate online gambling by passing the Government Emergency Ordinance (GEO) 77/2009. This law provided a framework for issuing licenses to operators and established the National Gambling Office (ONJN) as the primary regulatory authority for gambling activities.
The law now requires all online poker sites operating in Romania to obtain a license from ONJN. This process ensures that operators meet specific standards, providing safety and fairness to players.
